SolidWorks Simulation

Connecting Rod
  • For my Linear Algebra final project I chose to do a project that would show the applications of Finite Element Analysis.
  • I started by creating a write up on how a computer would go about solving deformation of a rigid body using a global stiffness matrix and solving by hand of a simple truss system.
  • I created a connecting rod in SolidWorks based on the dimensions of a connecting rod from a Chevy LS3 engine.
  • I then had SolidWorks Simulation create a mesh and then go about solving a prescribed load and how the rod would deform under this extreme case.
Finished Project
  • I showed the math that goes into solving deformation of a solid body using nodal points and meshes.
  • It involves tedious hand calculations but can be easily solved on a computer.
